Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”
Highways are everywhere criss-crossing the landscape, taking us wherever we want to go. There are freeways, avenues, lanes, and boulevards. In today’s age of technology we now have computer highways that will take us to beautiful places around the world by the click of a few buttons. It will also take us to information destinations that can enlighten, educate, and entertain us. I read in a newspaper not long ago the headline that read, “Car Lover Buried in Corvette”. The newspaper column opened with this, “If there is a highway to heaven, George Swanson may get to the Pearly Gates in style. He was buried in his white Corvette.” His wife Carolyn said, “A lot of people say they want to take it with them. Well, he took it with him.”
Yes, there is a highway to heaven; however, you can’t travel it in a Corvette after you die and you most certainly can’t take anything of this world with you. My friend, you must get on this highway while you’re still alive by accepting Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Savior. In Romans 10:1-13, the apostle Paul declared the road to heaven isn’t difficult to find nor to access. Its right in front of us in the precious and Eternal Word of God. Jesus Christ said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). My friend, he died for our sins, broke the power of death by His resurrection, lives in heaven as our Advocate and Intercessor, and places us on the only highway to heaven … that is to all who trust Him as their Savior. Whether or not you’re buried in a Corvette makes no difference. The highway to heaven starts on this side of death, and the entrance is easy to find. The Bible says, “Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Matthew 7:14 tell us, “Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” My friend, Jesus was talking about the path that we take when we put our faith in Him. He was talking about the highway to heaven. The eloquent English evangelist George Whitefield (1714-1770) once preached on Matthew 25:1-13, and particularly verse 10, And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage; and the door was shut.” One man in the audience was overheard saying to another, “So what? Another door will open.” But as Whitefield continued preaching, he said, “There may be someone here who is careless and self-satisfied, and who thinks, ‘What does it matter if the door is shut? Another will open.’ Yes, it will, the door to the bottomless pit, the door to hell!” When time runs out, and God shuts the door of salvation, the door to doom, darkness, and despair will open. The question you must seriously consider and answer is:
(1) Are you on the right highway and have you walked through the only door which leads to eternal life?
What you do with Christ now will determine what He will do with you later.
