In the year 1912 Lou Proctor called himself a baseball player, and the Baseball Encyclopedia agreed. So, there he is on page 1304, listed with everyone who played major league baseball; however, when the next edition goes to press, his name won’t be listed. It’s been discovered that Proctor was the press-box telegraph operator for the 1912 St. Louis Cardinals. He never was a player. He put his own name in the box score of a game, thus getting into the Baseball encyclopedia.

My beloved, Lou Proctor was an impostor. God is also keeping a book and in it He puts the name of every person who has trusted Jesus Christ as Savior and been born again through His precious shed blood. It’s the Book that indicates who will be allowed to enter heaven and in His book you won’t find any impostors. Yet, many people think there are many other ways to get their name recorded in the Book of Life.

Many think if they get on the rolls of a church or try to buy their way to heaven by good deeds, figuring that these ways will get them listed in the Book. If this is your thought pattern you’re one hundred per cent wrong. It is recorded in the Scriptures that the only way to heaven in through faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:15).

Further thoughts:

In reply to Nicodemus’ question, Jesus declared that “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). What did Jesus mean by the statement “unless one is born again”? Nicodemus, the religious leader to whom Jesus was speaking, asked if that meant becoming a baby a second time (v. 4). Jesus explained that He was talking about spiritual rebirth (vv. 5-8). We all need to be reborn because we are spiritually dead.

Romans 3:23 states, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This means that our sin has separated us from a life-giving relationship with God our Creator. We all have sinned by violating His perfect moral standards and so we are guilty and deserving of His judgment (John 3:18-21). What every person needs is the forgiveness and eternal life that only Jesus Christ made possible through His sinless life, His sacrificial death on the cross, and His bodily resurrection.

My beloved, there isn’t room in heaven for impostors. The question remains – “Is your name written in the Book of Life?”

Our salvation is free because Jesus Christ paid the full price.
